It was while he was living in rural England that he realised that what he really wanted to do was create \u003ca title=\"designer furniture\" href=\"http:\/\/www.design55online.co.uk\" target=\"_self\"\u003edesigner furniture \u003c\/a\u003e- and his enthusiasm secured him a place at the Royal College of Art in London.[OPEN]\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eImmediately after graduation Grcic went to work at \u003ca title=\"Jasper Morrison\" href=\"http:\/\/www.design55online.co.uk\/designers\/jasper-morrison.html\"\u003eJasper Morrison’s\u003c\/a\u003e Office for Design, and in 1991 he set up his own Munich-based design office. For ten years his design approach was strictly within a rationalist language – then he began experimenting with computer design software.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe result in 1999 was the iconic \u003ca title=\"Magis chair one\" href=\"http:\/\/www.design55online.co.uk\/magis-chair-ones-black-painted-aluminium-set-of-2.html\" target=\"_self\"\u003eMagis Chair One\u003c\/a\u003e. Grcic used die-cast aluminium and industrial production methods to construct a chair “like a football – assembled from a collection of small, flat planes to create a 3D form.” It was revolutionary and it perfectly epitomised Grcic’s combination of formal rigour with subtle humour. It is made in Italy by \u003ca title=\"Magis Furniture\" href=\"http:\/\/www.design55online.co.uk\/brands\/magis.html\" target=\"_self\"\u003eMagis\u003c\/a\u003e and it can be found in Manhattan’s MoMA and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
