He left his studies and the next day took up employment with his father’s design house. Magistretti initially worked on the reconstruction of post-war Italy, noted for his generous and humanistic designs.[OPEN] The estate he built for Pirelli workers is to this day remarkable for its open, green spaces and the high level of life satisfaction reported by the people who live there.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eIt wasn’t until the sixties that Magistretti discovered he had a flair for designing stylish mass-produced furniture, and he entered into fruitful collaborations with the likes of Artemide, Cassina and \u003ca title=\"Kartell furniture\" href=\"http:\/\/www.design55online.co.uk\/brands\/kartell.html\" target=\"_self\"\u003eKartell furniture\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eMagistretti won the Compasso d’Oro in 1967 and again in 1979. In 1986 he received a Gold Medal from the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers.
