Born in 1960, the prolific and hugely successful Laviani first came to prominence in the nineties as one of the 12 Newcomers from the Memphis Movement. His biomimetic designs are ironic, playful and passionate. [OPEN]

Perhaps the most famous example of this is the Kartell Fly ceiling light – inspired by a simple soap bubble.

A trained architect, Laviani’s C.V. is enviable. Amongst others, he has worked with Dolce and Gabbana, Swarovski, Flos, Olivetti, Dada, Foscarini - in addition to being Artistic Director of Kartell since 1991. In 2000 he was made a Professor at the Domus Academy.

All of Laviani’s designs evolve from sensuous, curvilinear forms and have an underlying feel of the fifties – which is why designers of the previous generation to his (notably his old teacher, Milan Uni’s Achille Castiglioni) hail Ferruccio Laviani as at the cutting edge of Italy’s long and world dominating design tradition.[CLOSE]
