Born in Indianopolis in 1934, Graves received his first degree from Cincinnati and his Masters from Harvard. A member of the sixties American movement, the New York Five, Graves is both a renowned architect and a designer of desirable and popular household items. [OPEN] He is Professor of Architecture at Princeton and Director of Michael Graves Associates in addition to being a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council.

Graves is best known for investing Le Corbusier’s rationalist style with his own wide-ranging eclecticism. The method arguably reached a pinnicle with his iconic Bird Alessi Kettle – which fuses Art Deco with American Pop Culture. It can be seen in the V & A and Manhattan’s MoMA, and remains a best-seller.

A recipient of many awards throughout his life, Graves was awarded the Driehaus Prize for Classical Architecture in 2012.[CLOSE]
